The rural image of Zamudio has gradually changed over the years, as, little by little, industry has occupied its gentle hills and riverside meadows. Today, on the Bizkaia Technology Park, industry and state-of-the-art technology exist side by side with agriculture. Great efforts have been made to preserve its cultural heritage, traditions and the famous food products of this area such as cider and the famous young wine “txakoli”. The first written evidence of the existence of this industry in the municipality dates back to 1679.
The historical centre of Zamudio is located in the hamlet known as Arteaga. Most of the buildings of historical-artistic interest in the town are concentrated in this area, forming an ensemble of great importance.

The Tower of Zamudio is the central element of a group of buildings consisting of the Tower itself, the Church of San Martín, and the Arteaga watermill. Forming a socio-economic unit, this set of buildings provides evidence of the power of the Zamudio family, one of the lineages of the Domain of Bizkaia in the early Middle Ages.
This hamlet also includes other buildings of historical interest such as the Kadaltso farmhouse, built in the 15th century; with its heraldic emblem granted by Carlos V to the lineage of the Cadalso family and the Town Hall, dating from the 18th century.
