The municipality of Urduliz is located in a wide valley, flanked on both sides by a line of hills, dotted with farmhouses. This is an eminently rural area in which only the parish of Santa María was able to get together enough buildings to call itself a village. Later, as of the sixties, some areas of Urduliz were subjected to a process of urban expansion. The main reasons for the development of the municipality were its good location near the sea and the industrial area of the Nervión, as well as the large amount of land available for industrial use.
Today, most of the population of Urduliz is employed in the industrial sector. The services sector has also been developed over recent years, driven on by the increase in the number of residents in the area.

The agricultural sector continues to be an important influence in the municipality in the form of a numerous small farms engaged in the production of traditional crops and horticultural products. The hamlets in which the municipality of Urduliz is divided still maintain their traditional rural quality in an exceptional setting, which you can discover by doing any of the routes prepared for visitors on foot or by bicycle.
The exceptional setting of Urduliz in a natural corridor oriented towards the sea, made this municipality more relevant and influential than its neighbours. Witness to its illustrious past, the original village, set in pleasant surroundings, contains a number of interesting buildings grouped around the Church of Santa María. Very nearby you will find the chapel of Santa Marina, which offers beautiful views of the region.
