Plentzia is a highly attractive seafaring town for tourism and residential, located on the last meander formed by the river Butrón before flowing out into the sea and its boundaries coincide with the course of the river estuary of the same name.
Today, the urban centre comprises three very different districts: the Medieval Quarter or original town centre where most of the monuments and buildings of greatest historical and artistic interest are located. Txipios and the Ensanche, where most of the modern buildings can be found, are the result of the growing urban development of the town around the Plentzia river estuary, the town´s port and beach.

The medieval quarter of Plentzia is located at the highest point in the town and still conserves a large part of his medieval layout as well as the charm of its historical places. A walk along its narrow streets will allow you to get to know emblematic buildings such as the Church of Santa María Magdalena, the traditional homes of sailors and the mansions built by the bourgeoisie in the 19th century. The magnificent building of the “Torreón” houses the Plasentia de Butrón Municipal Museum.
There is a pleasant route that runs through the whole town from the Txipio marshlands, of great landscape and ecological value, and continues through the area known as the Ensanche or area of expansion, where the old shipbuilding yards were located. The port, used both for fishing and ocean-going boats, is located at the end of the river estuary, surrounded by bars and restaurants. The walk ends at the beautiful Plentzia beach.
The Plentzia Tourist Office will provide you with detailed information about the broad range of gastronomic, sports and cultural activities that can be found in Plentzia throughout the year.
