Andra Mari church at Urizar
Andra Mari church at Urizar
The town of Lemoiz emerged during the Middle Ages around the Parish of Urizar, which later absorbed the villages of Andraka, located next to the road that linked the village with Plentzia and Mungia, and Armintza, a fishermen´s settlement situated in a natural cove.

The spectacular landscape of this section of the coast features long stretches of cliffs alternating with small bays and pebble beaches. This area, which has been declared a “Relevant Natural Space”, is the home of several representative communities of coastal flora and fauna and is a major breeding area for seabirds, making it an incomparable location for scuba-diving and birdwatching.
The cultural heritage of Lemoiz is extremely rich and varied, in keeping with the different ways of life of its inhabitants over the centuries. In the rural hamlets of Andraka and Urizar, their farmhouses and elements linked to their traditional culture such as the old washhouse and watermills, are of special interest. Near the small port of Armintza you can find, moreover, a singular example of a traditional fisherman´s house. The most important building in the village is the Church of Andra Mari of Urizar, which still conserves a beautiful Romanesque facade.
